My baby has grown out of its baby hammock/cradle – how do I transition to a bed?Updated 3 months ago
It can take some getting used to when you want to change the way your child sleeps. However, it doesn't have to be a bad experience. If you think your child is reacting to going from the baby hammock to a bed, take a step-by-step approach.
We've put together a little 10-step guide:
- Use the baby hammock as normal
- Gradually slow down the tempo of the motor
- Use the baby hammock at as low a speed as possible
- If necessary, change from the baby hammock to a baby carrier or wrap
- Swaddle in carrier/wrap
- Holding the baby close in your arms and patting bottom
- Embrace and pat bottom
- Put child to bed, pat bottom and hold hand
- Lie down, cuddle bottom and hold hand
- Lie down and hold hands
This process can ensure a more calm and secure transition - and a much greater chance of succeeding. It's important to remember that all children are different - including when it comes to sleep, needs and transitions. Give it time and patience, and we're sure you'll be successful.
